ELC Philosophy

Philosophy
Putting Children First:

- providing for each child’s needs and interests , understanding the individual nature of each child’s development and using this as the starting point when programming
- planning for routines to maximise interactions and children’s learning throughout the day
- prioritising children’s need for stable and caring relationships through a primary caring approach
- ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing through adherence to regulatory guidelines and accreditation principles

Fostering Respect:
- develop respectful relationships between all people in the centre; staff, parents and children
- listen respectfully to the opinions of staff, children and parents/carers at our centre
- provide opportunities for parents to be involved in and informed about the centre program and issues related to children’s development
- acknowledge and respect the different social and cultural backgrounds of families
- teach children respect for each other, for people and for resources and the environment
- show respect for information and maintain confidentiality

Develop learning by providing a balance of challenge and support:
- encouraging children and adults to develop a love of learning
- providing play based and developmentally appropriate experiences that extend children’s skills, knowledge and capacities across all areas of learning
- encouraging all staff to participate in ongoing professional learning

Integrating learning and care:
- We believe that quality of care and education are interwoven.
- We are committed to working in an integrated site offering learning for children from infancy to the Primary Years of school – as this provides opportunities to strengthen relationships and develop deep knowledge about children and families.
- Developing good communication with parents and caregivers strengthens our ability as a centre to support the learning and wellbeing of individual children and families.
