Music Tuition

The DECD Instrumental Music Service provide lessons in several brass and woodwind instruments. There is a charge for lessons and hire of instruments.

Brass and woodwind lessons begin in Term One. For more information, contact the school.

Instrumental Music Groups

Instrumental music education in SA government schools is organised by an education department program called Instrumental Music (IM).

Face to Face lessons Years 4-6

Students can participate in small group music lessons and currently can learn to play a Brass or Woodwind instrument through special programs run by DfE Instrumental Music teacher.

If children are offered a place in an Instrumental Music class, there is an expectation that the child continue this instrument for the duration of the year. Instruments can be arranged for hire through the school.

Every endeavour will be made to accommodate all applicants.  If there are too many students for places in beginner classes, applications will be chosen based on music ability, suitability for specific instruments, and the balance of ensembles.

School Ensemble

Students can participate in school ensembles, such as the concert band which perform throughout the year.  These ensembles allow students to:

  • Participate at their own level of skill
  • Experience a wide variety of musical styles or genres
  • Develop the capacity to maintain their own part in an ensemble
  • Give public performances
  • Develop life skills reflecting positive team work, tolerance, organisation and respect.
